The charming Chateau Marmont

While in LA, friends stayed in a bungalow at the famous Chateau Marmont and we spent a lazy afternoon lounging at the pool. I just had to share it with you!

Nestled into the Hollywood Hills above Sunset Boulevard, the hotel offers extreme privacy and actually feels more 'east coast' then Hollywood.

Right under the disturbing billboard James Franco put up in honor of Brad Renfro (seen above) is the pool where we had bottles of rose and fresh cherries delivered while dangling our feet into the near bathwater temperature water; heaven.

Built in 1929, the hotel feels like a relic stuck in time, in the best way possible. I loved this patio furniture.

The bungalows are behind the pool along a series of heavily planted pathways with charming surprises around each corner like this little water feature.

The doors have arched sidelights and beautiful stained glass which look to be inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. The front door leads directly into a casually furnished living room .

The design throughout speaks of the arts and crafts movement and every little detail could be original to the hotel's building. Each bungalow has a small kitchen that I imagine myself spending most of my time.

Love the high painted wood wainscoting and wallpaper.

No dishwasher here - we're back in time afterall! I'm not sure I'd want to cook a full meal on this vintage stove, but it's a charming place to warm up water for tea or leftovers. My grandparents had a similar stove and refrigerator in their basement that were original to their house and I always just loved the look of them.If you ever find yourself in LA, I highly recommend a stay at the Chateau! Thanks for sharing it. It seems like "back to the past" I remember we had a refrigerator like this, in the last century when I was a kid. Next time in LA, will try to stay there, it would be fun.

I have stayed in the bungalows, and they are incredibly wonderful, as is the hotel. Definitely one of my faves.

I love those patio chairs; the metal strap design allows some "give" to make them really comfortable. Rebuilt/refurbished stoves and refrigerators are very popular in Southern California, despite the high cost. That I am old enough to remember them the first time around might have something to do with my indifference towards them, however. Very charming, though.

Paisley-we stayed at the Mondrian and I regret not staying at the chateau!
Dandy -so jealous!
Classicist-I figured these were refurbished -they were in too good of condition to be original. I'm sure the hotel has been done over many many times. It all reads as 'original' though it's so well done.

I love the Chateau Marmont - so much history! And I know I'm biased (as an LA native) but I think the light in this city is really beautiful... :)

Your photographs really illustrate the quiet elegance. Love the patio combination of pale green and white...so restful.

I love that kitchen! So charming-- the whole bungalow makes me think of the 7 Dwarves house. The tiny window with roller shade especially.

Oh, I love that patio furniture too! I found one of those chairs several years ago, and the powder-coater broke off one the slats, which are like springs. I haven't been able to find anyone able to fix it

Jim Belushi is not dead, it's his brother John that died...
