monotonous.......

mono-toney-ous........While I love bright colors, I must admit that I have a penchant for quiet, subtle rooms. My entire apartment is shades of french grays and cool grays. I'm really loving this Warren Smith room today and the subtle degrees of gray. I never noticed how strong I liked a quiet room till flipping through my clipping files the other week - I wondered 'Am I boring?'. So what do you think -color, or not to color?

No color...I love a serene palette of neutrals!

I don't think you are boring. Personally I can't resist color but gray rooms with varied textures and shades are so chic (hard not to use that overused word). So French.

Grey is my favorite color.

Absolutely NOT boring. My entire pad is in a subdued warm palette. I've got beige, gold, rich brown woods, caramel and just a hint of red or orange here...and there... and there...

To me, my house is my respite from the world. I love it to be relaxing and gorgeous. And gorgeous to me is not bright yellow. It's not lime green. It's not crayola crayon blue.

And if I decide I want to add i a new color, I can easily swap out all of my orange/red accents and go with an entirely new shade.

I say thumbs up. Neutral in no way has to be boring. There can be a lot of high drama with a monochrome color palette.

Presh, you are SO not boring. I've found that sometimes a room in cool, "colorless" colors (like gray, cream, white, etc.) can be incredibly peaceful and soothing. And sometimes that just what the spirit needs.

You go ahead and enjoy your gray. We can still be friends.

with love from Pittsburgh (which is where you are RIGHT NOW!!!)...

Absolutely NOT boring, a neutral palette, to me, is the most livable! I think it's a more subtle beauty, that evolves and grows on you over time. Bright colors are like a flash in the pan ... they're quickly over.

I wouldn't change a thing in this room. The drapery adds the drama to the entire room. Magnificent-!!

So not mono-tone-us, reminds me of living inside a jewel box. I do love a "pop" of color as an accent which could be as simple as a bowl full of cherries.
Glad you had a nice time at home.

This room is gorgeous! {And not boring at all.} In fact, the sitting room was painted a French grey this summer and it's beautiful.

{p.s. Knew you would love the Karl Lagerfeld + Versailles shoot.}

I love this room. I prefer to have a very neutral base to a room, and add color with pillows and art. But, more and more, my 'inpiration files' are filled with very neutral rooms, often gray, but also variations of cream.

TTI, I agree with you as to saving color for accents; pillows and art. I don't know why I'm always drawn to these types of rooms, I suppose because they are somewhat serene.
