Carmel cottage
I came across this cottage while in Carmel, California and immediately thought it was the perfect little beach cottage. A field of lavender for a front yard, climbing roses up a brick chimney, an American flag waving by the front door, wide casement windows to hear the ocean - what more could one ask for?

When can I move in?
Perfection! There is something about a charming cottage that is so appealing and one can have a more streamlined, simple life. I grew up in a small home, but what made it so liveable was its siting on a great property with wonderful views. Great windows, lots of light and views can really make or break a small house! Oh, and lots and lots of storage!
P.S. Thanks for your kind notes on the wedding. I cannot believe it's almost here either. I hope it will be warm and lovely for guests and not cold and rainy like this weekend! Happy weekend to you.

Several years ago, I was working on a house in Pebble Beach. After dinner, it was still light and I drove around the quiet streets of Carmel (where many of the houses are weekend homes of residents of San Francisco and Silicon Valley). Just as I passed a tiny house in horrible condition, a For Sale sign was being put in the ground. Thinking it was fate, I called immediately. $1.3 million! By the time of my next visit, it had been sold and torn down. But it is a lovely (and dog-friendly) town.
Charming! (Though, not to be unpatriotic, color-wise, the flag rather clashes....)
I wouldn't ask for anything more.
Lovely Stefan and still one of my favorite spots on the west coast!
Xoxo
