A lovely stone house

It's been awhile since I shared a weekend picture and thought I'd share this adorable stone house I came across last weekend in the Arlington,Virginia suburb of DC.  Houses such as this are always my favorite! I especially like the mature landscaping which provide dappled sunlight in our notoriously hot and humid summers but allow for full sun in our cool winters.  My only comment would be the 'fake' shutters flanking the double windows on the ground floor - don't need them!  What do you think of the house?

I've always loved stone houses, and I particularly love the cottage-y look of this one. How soon can I move in?

I love it! I would love to see the floor plan. We are wanting to downsize and this would be perfect.

I love it! Looks a little familiar to me but there are alot of pretty stone houses in Arlington. Now if only the developers ruining N Arlington would hire an architect like you!!!

I would love to know when this house was built.

Yup, adorable... the landscaping helps too... makes it look so hobbit-like comfortable nestled in the flowering trees.

There is one such near where we live set on a slight rise and I often drive past just to look at it. A house for troglodyte recluses.

LOVELY PHOTOS.

Wish I had been able to go on the Georgetown tour.

I used to live in DC just half a block from DUMBARTON OAKS and so beautiful.

I loved it in the winter, laden with snow, and in the summer heat ("you know, Georgetown is technically in the south' everyone used to say, in some kind of explanation of the intense heat.)

keep it up! DIANE

Charm.
Pure charm.

Prefer the designs in Georgetown. This is okay, but nothing to gush over. There is so much bad architecture today that this mid 20th C. design actually starts to look special.

Anon- sad but true! Everything can't be Georgetown but it's nice to see these more attainable versions that are well designed and maintained without awful additions or bad decisions made.

If I were to build today with my retirement in mind, I'd build a stone cottage. There is something inherently fine about a modest stone cottage nestled into the landscape. Not too big. Not too small. Just right.
