Book signing

Last night I attended a book signing for 'Barry Dixon Interiors' right near my office at the Georgetown 'Waterworks' store with my good friend Loda. Above is a picture of me with the designer,Barry Dixon, on the right and the author, Brian Coleman, on the left. Barry is TALL, ladies and gentlemen.
A photo of Mr. Dixon signing copies of his book. A lot of work goes into 'small' events like this and I thought I would show you the workings of a party! The event was held on the 2nd floor of Waterworks, these BEAUTIFUL lilies were at the top of the steps to greet us. The entire store had beautifully scented candles lit throughout creating ambiance.
A bar was set up with a selection of drinks in an out of the way location. Notice the white jacket on the server -very nice!
This ratatouille was one of the passed hors d'eurves -it was DELICIOUS! The caterer showed me where in the back room they were setting up trays to pass. YUMMY!! There were probably 4 people passing trays and 1 plating up in the back. Piles of the book were waiting to be bought and signed. I was good and saved my money - sorry Barry!Next to the books were the 'swag bags' but I must say waterworks cheaped out! All we got was a catalog of their products (which I already have), an outdated tile sample (not even large enough to use as a coaster) and a TINY free sample of the yummy Molton Brown gingerlily showergel. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but it seemed a bit cheap. I guess they spent all their budget on the BEAUTIFUL engraved invitations. Oh well, the book is fantastic however, check it out if you haven't seen it yet! Beautiful photographs of Barry Dixon's work and great writing to boot!

This is fantastic. So funny about the "gift" bag...I was just looking through Barry's book Sunday. i picked up Darryl Carter...Ill go back for Dixon. And jesus- he's tall!

I think you'll really like the book, James -let me know what you think! I notice it's pretty competitvely priced on amazon right now. I'm 5'9 -the writer was probably 5'8 -and Barry must be 6'3 at least.

What a swanky book signing event. The nicest one I ever attended was for a local author at the Tower Book store. No appetizers, flowers, cocktails or swag bags there...just kool-aid,chips and a receipt of purchase:) Thanks for sharing.

The Waterworks showroom would be fun on it's own, even better with a nice party.

And since anonymous broke the ice, you're adorable Architect.

Waterworks is SUCH a fun place to go and drool over all the offerings! Admittedly I just got the invitation through my firm (which specs them a lot on our projects) - someday maybe I can have some waterworks of my own!

Waterworks is a fabulous partner and always throws a great party for those lucky enough to be invited. I loved the food, wine, flowers and meeting the other guests. Our clients will love the new Kromaglas that was sampled in the bag--which I think was probably intended to carry your autographed book. The Georgetown showroom has several new displays that are a must see. When checking them out, ask for your own copy of the new catalogues -- they are so inspiring.

You are too cute for words. I love your look, just as I had thought. Now about the goodie bag, too bad there was not some juicy bathrobe or even a little candle or even a waterworks drain cover... but one, can never go wrong with a book.
We used waterworks for our bath renovation - all white, simple and never ever regret our choice, they were great to work with and everything looks super - years later.

You looked just how I thought...very handsome! I was lucky enough to meet Margare Russell at a book signing in San Francisco at Ann Sacks. Very similiar event, but we did get a very nice bag of stuff! Scented candles, chocolates, catalogs, and the latest Elle Decor magazine and California Homes magazine. But these events are alot of fun, goody bag or not, no? So fun to have met Mr. Dixon I bet!
