Lately I've had Jib doors on my mind; you know, the flush trim less doors hidden in a wall. I recently viewed a house which had jib doors (seen above) leading to a bathroom from each bedroom. I can't see a door like this without thinking of the famous Horst image of Pauline de Rothschild's bedroom from 1969.
What do you think, love them as much as me? Don't forget the post from 2007 on The Peak of Chic about jib doors; can you believe we've been blogging this long, it feels like just yesterday!

I think they are great, you don't want a very well defined door with heavy trim in each wall. They are great for bathrooms and a walk in closets.
I'd love them painted over that way. Beautiful.
I love them, too. I first became aware of them as a child, seeing pictures in books on Versailles. (Including, famously, the one in the queen's state bedroom that leads to the petit appartement de la reine.) I love that one can still have function without having to muck up the design of a wall, throw off the symmetry of a room. And then they often add a bit of mystery, too, when they're made to really blend into the wall; what's behind the hidden door?
My parents had "jib" doors for the cupboard in the breakfast room built in 1961. Pretty clever idea I think. Had a cool push to open / push to close hidden latch that I drove my mom crazy playing with. I'll have to think about these but I'm perfectly happy with Pauline's.
Yes, I like jib doors, and I think David Hick's treatment (as seen on your link) is very cool. It reminded me of an apartment I had in Pittsburgh that had a shallow bookcase built into the bedroom door (I never used it, imagining endless disasters!).
I didn't know they had a name! :)
Thanks! Terri xo
A gorgeous door and room. I love to see these that seem to be hidden doors to a magical place.

I'm crazy for jib doors. They are beyond cool. I'd love to have one myself. Reggie
I have always wanted to do a house with a jib door.
Love the look and I always think of the Horst image too!

Thanks for the post! I knew these doors had a name but didn't know what it was. A friend in New Orleans built a new house & had a storage closet with a jib door built into the wall in her dining room.
