One last thing

In last week's post on the Pan American Building by Paul Cret, I forgot to post one of the most important pictures! This model shows a cross section through the main space -showing the Beaux Arts diagram of progression of spaces perfectly that I had tried to describe. To the left is the entry hall, you can see the glass canopy over the courtyard next with the stairs beyond. Next at the top of the stairs is the Hall of Heros and last is the piece de resistance, the ballroom with the tallest ceiling (with the library below it). You can tell this is the most important space in the building just from this section and all of the others lead up to it; Sometimes a picture IS worth a thousand words! Have a great weekend!

Oh, I love architectural models! The USC architecture library has tons of them scattered throughout some of the loveliest collections of art and architecture books. Thanks for this!

Stefan oh yes this says it all. I would be thrilled to see the building!

I have a New Giveaway from the French Basketeer I think you (or a friend) will love!

Models, plans, renderings. More please, it helps you "see." The unadorned model shows that nothing needs to be compensated for. Looks great empty, even sliced in two. Thanks so much.

Dear AD, It was not that your words, or pictures, were in any way unclear but I do agree that this cross section of the building shows exactly what you described.

I do hope that you are having an enjoyable Sunday.

This photo comes at an opportune moment - I need to explain what a section is, as opposed to an elevation, to a group of students and this will be perfect! The understanding of volume is very difficult sometimes when one is concerned mostly with plans and elevations.
