It seems everyone is talking about the April issue of Elle Decor in the blogosphere, which will hit newstands next week, the travel issue. However, I'm mostly interested in seeing the stylish Paris apartment of Olivier Gagnere......well, that and 12 things Nate Berkus can’t live without, my favorite monthly column! I'm sure Nate will have fascinating finds to share with us.
Purple seems to be everywhere this year. I tend to scoff at trends and have not been on board with purple until I saw this photo. I love this chair with velvet upholstery paired with accents of red and black against a gray background; this is a trend I can get on board with! I'm thinking a purple accent pillow for my couch in my gray apartment with black accents. Start small, baby steps, and maybe someday I'll be trendy!Cover photo for Elle Decor by Simon Upton

I think you would wear purple well! What about a purple polo or lavender hand towels? Like you said, just start with baby steps, especially when it comes to a trend.

aren't trends amusing? I find the bandwagon getting full and want to get off! When I moved I did blue, lilac, plum, these colours for some reason I have always associated with older women (the widows appropriate shades- several great aunts come to mind) but now it looks as if the old ladies are stylish. Go for the dustier shades of purple to a grayed one and you will be just right-not trendy,pgt
Elle Decor has gone from NOT my favourite to my favourite during the last two years. Modern, classic, with a hint of the traditional but never boring AND without being too trendy (which I avoid like the plague as it all will be so over when tomorrow comes!)

It's like that chair has a mind of it's own. Anything that matches or blends with blue/purple hydrangeas is a winner at our house. But we haven't been trendy except for about 20 minutes in the early '80's.
That dash of red is keeping it from being little girl sweet - love it together.
There is a room at Mrs. Howard that has the most beautiful shade of purple on the walls - I agree with your other commenter about selecting a grayed tone. I also like Mrs B's observation about adding a dash of red!
Like Little Augury purples tend to remind me of my great aunt Letha. Then again she was a pretty stylish lady. More than the upholstery I think the lines of the chair are super.
I hadn't made the connection but my paternal grandmother ONLY wore purple - purple dresses everyday and a huge purple diamond cocktail ring. Even more reason for purple!
Stefan, wait until you see my latest paining, and Mrs B it does also has a dash of red!! It needs another coat of depth and richness and will be ready!

Initially I liked the lines of the chair, but the longer I looked at it, the more it looks like a stuffed t-shirt someone used for a target at a rifle range! Interesting group of objects in the close up. I think the perfection of the flooring gets my highest vote. Good luck with your purple reign! Fascinating how color is such a memory maker.
So interesting. One of my favorite saved images is of a dining room/library with purple and red!
I posted on lampshades today. And one just happens to be a purple damask with gold foil lining and oval shape. I've had it for years. It's a favorite and always seems to solicit comments.
Wasn't mauve always the color for spinsters? Anyway, I love accent pillows and throws...always a great was to change things up a bit with the seasons. I think a purple velvet pillow would look fabulous chez Stefan.
I agree with Mrs. Blandings, the red makes it work, and not be too spinsterish. The newest "trend" color that reminds me of grandmama is mauve. Now that one, I'm not so sure about.

I never was a "purple person" either but I must admit a pale, greyed down version is growing on me.
I love those tones from dusty lavender to gray purple!

Stefan- black and gray with a gray purple- you probably will like it. Take the color for a short drive- you will find it will not scream convertible but a respectable Mercedes.
