What would you call these?

Following yesterday's topic, these eagle telamons (I hesitate to call them caryatids as they're so masculine looking) which grace the Italian embassy in Prague have my attention. Originally the Kolowrat-Thun Palace, the baroque palace was built in 1726 by G. A. Lurago and B. Scotti. Does anyone know if brackets like these have a specific name?

I don't know but they are quite grand.

Kwana, yes! that goes without saying! But we all know the Italians like a little pomp and circumstance!

Not sure if those are actually considred brackets but rather spandrel ornament, kind of like a tympanum? I love that building. I took a lot of pictures of the doors, which have recently been restored Prague is a favorite city of mine.

Lynne, everyone who goes says it is their favorite city. I must visit someday soon!

FWIW, more thumbnail views and a bit more background, but still no proper name.

I can't find a name for those eagles in my reference books, but they sure are gorgeous!

Prague is wonderful. I have no idea what they are called but they are magnifique!

I loved that living wall at BHV Homme. By the way, that small mirror in my bathroom was $21 and was lugged all the way back from BHV in Paris. It is resin, sadly, and not real wood. BHV has/had very affordable home decor last time I was there, but cheaper things - not as posh and wonderful at Printemps or Bon Marche.

I love Prague, the architecture is full of beautiful embellishments everywhere you look. I did enjoy it much more when I went the first time, before the Czech republic joined Europe. It had more old world mystique. When I went in 2008 I found it was much more westernised.
