My chair update
You may remember 2 months ago I bought a small antique chair and wanted some fabric advice.I had so many great responses and emails, it was admittedly overwhelming as each person said something different! I decided to go with my gut (and wallet) and use the leftover fabric I had from my dining room chairs, a turquoise velvet from Ralph Lauren Home. While not my usual taste, the ornate chair will be a great accent piece in my new apartment.I love how it turned out, what do you think?

gorgeous. you can always change it again later. but it's a nice neutral now.

I think you have great taste and made a very good choice. Congrstulations!
I like it very much: the blue is calm, regal and goes with what you already have. I would, however, prefer a single welt. But that is is a matter of taste, no?
Its teriffic!
Considering the original covering, you have saved this chair's life. On an absolute level, the blue fabric looks comfortable, and makes a good foil for the carving and gilt on the frame.

It looks lovely and with the new apartment probably draining cash, it was a very smart choice. Can't wait to see your new home and to hear whether the dishwasher still has to be the china cabinet!
ps Eons ago we discussed the Sonoma Home bookcase, You know the ones with the X motif on side. DO NOT buy this! Lovely it is, but I failed to notice that two of the shelves are glass and not a all suitable for books. Wish I had saved $$$$$ and gotten more storage from the X-book case from Ballards! Sigh....head banging on desk etc. Just wanted to save you some grief if this bookcase was still on your radar.
It is lovely! good bones!

Daniel - I agree. But my upholsterer was adamant about the double welt! I figured he knows best but I'm still a little 'eh' about it.
Dark, yes - my books are so heavy I have decided to just have custom bookcases built in. I'll be sure to post about them once they're completed!
Who did you use in the DC area for the upholstery? thanks!
DAM -I always use Market Place Interiors in Old Town on Cameron Street. Talk to Aku Merali, They're gerat!
beautiful and classic and very versatile in any room...
Fantastic!
Perfect!
Love the color and it does not distract from your chair's beautiful lines. Also, I agree with home before dark...the thrifty Yankee in me! Ah, custom bookcases...looking forward to that post!
Completely sublime! Very nice choice! Thank you for sharing!
We have a double welt on our Louis XV-style chair and I'm happy with it. The fabric, as I've probably mentioned before, is a 1980s Timney Fowler silk and something grander like a gimp would not have down at all well. Would I use a double welt next time? Depends on the chair and my wallet.
The chair looks good in its blue velvet and fits well in your house. Looking forward to photos of your new place.
Just gorgeous! Love velvet and the color is very pretty.
hope you saved the old cover for a throw pillow -

Love the chair, I am a big fan of velvet and this color goes so well with the old patina of gilding on the chair.
Any time you decide you don't want the chair any more, just let me know :)
Its the details of our lives I think that in some respects make the impact. Its only once in a while the big picture matters. I loves these photos of the details.
Oh, but it's beautiful!
beautiful fabric choice. love the chair...
