Just a little more house love from Houston....
The Charleston style houses seen at the top of this post all had exterior entries through a door into gated gardens. These brick verandas led you into all of the public spaces of the house through french doors with no proper 'front door' - interesting, huh? I love the ceiling fans that line the porch.Above you can see the 'front door' onto the veranda. Great for the Texas climate! This Vegas style beauty below was next door to the house I featured yesterday. While maybe not as tasteful as yesterdays post, this house still has its charms, doesn't it?

Love the architecture of the first house. Would have loved to see something like that in Norway. :) (we're al about timber houses here, but they rarely have a porch)
Yes, it is really pretty, BL, isn't it? I love the blue walls!
All I see is "cha-ching" - How many square feet are these homes? They look gi-normous.
pve
While in Houston, did you visit Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens? If not, you must make time for it on your next visit. You would love it.
PVE, I know! EVERYTHING in texas was huge! I was told land is cheap..but still! All that oil money!
Anon - I didn't get a chance to see that, I'll have to check it out next time I'm in Houston!
oh my . . . that porch looks delightful. I could just lounge there for hours watching to world go by.
but, I'm kinda with PVE here on the outrageous size of some of these homes. Maybe it's my SF billion-dollars-per-square-foot sensibilities coming out . . . lol.
Scott, i coudln't agree more! All the buildings were HUGE. However, the price of one of those gigantic homes is only slightly more than the cost of a 2 bedroom condo here in DC!
What grand houses Houston has. Thanks for sharing.Love the 1st porch and the blue color.
Wow! Big! Gorgeous! A-M xx
