As I've said before, there is nothing as satisfying as a white bathroom. This example by Paul Vincent Wiseman from the book House Beautiful Color fits the bill nicely. I especially love the use of frosted glass at the window (instead of fussy curtains) and echoing these with mirror around the tub makes for a great enclosure.

I had a client in the early nineties that was so attracted to this bathroom that she had me design a pair of sconces inspired by these to be custom made for her own Park Ave apartment.

ReplyDeleteThe color itself may not date, but the fixtures certainly could if not chosen with care. Personally, I'm partial to a slightly older look - white wainscoting with black and white tile. When we do get around to a badly-needed bathroom reno, I also want a pedestal tub and sink. And to move one wall out a little so we can fit in an antique bureau to hold linens. And after traveling in India last year, I've decided I really want one of these:

ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you. I've always done white bathrooms with classic materials and fixtures. I recently found one of my old homes on a real estate site and the 20-year old bath was unchanged and still looked current.

ReplyDeleteI can't BELIEVE those pictures are 20 years old! That settles it: my next bathroom will be white. (Sans frosted glass, though, which for some reason I've never cared for.) Thanks, AD!
ReplyDeleteThat -is- a fabulous bathroom! Frosted glass always makes me do the "are my glasses on" face pat, but the little unfrosted trim helps with that. Plus having that many mirrors lightens the room up more than any of the fixtures could.
