The sad news is that my old camera (2002 canon powershot sds) finally died yesterday and I'm in the market for a new one. The good news is that I get to take advantage of updated technologies, mainly size! My old camera was small for the time (basically pocketsize) and has performed really well, but as the years progressed smaller versions were being released. As I like to carry my camera around with me all the time, size is
so important -it must fit in my pocket!
I'm thinking of replacing it with the same model, unless anyone has any other suggestions, the
Canon PowerShot SD780 IS. Is anyone familiar with this version of camera?
It also comes in 4 colors and I'm having a difficult time deciding which I want to go with . I value your opinion: what color would you chose? Silver, black, red or gold? I'm leaning towards gold (shown)..... and shying away from red which I feel is a target when traveling. Thoughts?
I have a Power Shot and I love it. I don't remember which model it is and don't have it with me. It's not so small, but it's got 10 megapixels and a swivel screen and I've been really happy with the photos I've taken.
ReplyDeleteWe keep sending our Cameras back to non-warrenty replair, they, usually send back a perfectly good rebuilt one for $70 or more, usually the same model with improvements. It has worked very well.
ReplyDeleteBut the family got me a Panazonic DMC-ZS3 for Christmas (very good buys are around). It's a wide angle which really helps with interiors and buildings. I thought my old one was great, this one, well, I'm not worthy. All I do is "mash the button."
ug- this is one of those things I absolutely hate to do-I am hopeless with reasonable selections- and just do ti. As to color silver def. gt
ReplyDeleteGold, definitely gold!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, we got blue.
ReplyDeleteI have a brown canon sd1100, which i love. it's very small, takes excellent pictures and is very intuitive to use. can't recommend it enough.
ReplyDeleteI would not do the red --- for the same reasons you are wondering about. Why wave a flag to the robbers!
ReplyDeleteStefan, what bad timing! Your camera is supposed to break BEFORE Christmas! That would have been a perfect present for you. hah!!!
ReplyDeletegetting a new camera is so exciting - I love mine, but it is so big and heavy that I don't take it out as much as I would like/should. This makes me miss the ease of my old one.
good luck with your choice!
and have a happy new year!

I just purchased a Canon Power Shot G10 and I love it!! It takes fabulous pictures just on the auto setting. What size is your pocket? Fits in a coat pocket but not a trouser pocket. Good Luck!!
ReplyDeleteI have a Powershot and its...ok. Perfectly fine for snapping casual images, but I'm actually looking for something more professional for blogging purposes.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!!
I recently replaced my old model SD 780 (2007) with a new version. I went from 7 to 12 MP. I couldn't be happier! Enjoy!

You can't go wrong with Canon.
ReplyDeleteIf you want a small camera that takes great photos in low light, then check out the Canon S90. It's more expensive than the other small cameras but if you want higher image quality and better performance in low light, then it's a great choice.
why not the sd 940is?
