Georgetown

This past weekend I went on the Georgetown housetour with my friend Loda and her husband Tikigod. I managed to FORGET my camera because I had a busy morning prior to the tour, but Loda brought hers along and she's a great photographer! I wanted to share with you some of our photos plus you can read more about it on her blog as well! The Georgetown Housetour is the oldest house tour in America and is hosted by St. John's Episcopal church. The money raised goes to fund their ministery with the homeless. One of the best features of Georgetown are its gardens. Springtime is here in Washington and everything was in bloom. Many homes featured Wisteria which smelled WONDERFUL.

This formal garden was in front of a house beside one of the tour houses. I love the line of trees that provide privacy: you coudln't even see the house behind the trees!
This charming house was behind an iron gate and had PERFECT grass! No chemicals used, I'm sure, right? hahaThis home has been for sale for awhile, I'm not sure why. It's one of my favorites!(of course, they're all my favorites, it's a bad habit to say everything is my 'VERY FAVORITE!'). I really love that ivy crawling up the corner. And save the best for last -this little house is probably my favorite in Georgetown, it's just so cute and perfect! The picture doesn't do it justice!

  7. I"m so glad to see the Bruce house ... though for them, it was a drawing room not a ballroom ... I hate when real-estate agents start using grand vocabulary, don't you?

  8. Now I'm embaressed, I called it a ballroom myself -it was decorated and used as a drawing room. It was confusing though because I could think of no other use -you go through 2 other drawing rooms, down a 1/2 flight of BEAUTIFUL curved stairs and into the room -it just seemed like a ballroom to me from a european palace or old movie!

  9. I think it was just a much larger room for larger parties/gatherings than the other two smaller drawing rooms/sitting rooms could possibly hold ... I wonder if it ever was used a ballroom ... seems probable that it wasn't ... will keep checking ...

  10. It's all semantics at this point -i think we all would agree it's a great room for a party! It's definitely huge and would fit a large gathering!

  11. There was a marvelous house in Dallas, years ago, brick, its walls entirely cushioned in ivy ... the ivy was so deep that each window seemed to have a foot-deep sill of green ... still one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen ...
