While I sort through the 500 photos I took over my recent trip to Paris I thought I would share with you a great staircase I saw in an art gallery (I believe in the 17th). Why is it that the best railings never meet US code? Not sure if I loved the red color or the balustrade pattern better!
Code or not, it's a great design, and I like that gutsy red. Did you have a sense that it's an old railing updated, or a modern one?
ReplyDeleteGiven the end of the rail and the obvious recent renovation of the building it was in I would say it was done in the past decade, Mark.
ReplyDelete'Not code' isn't the problem -the problem is we can't replicate it here in the US because of it!
That is so chic but yes, now that I have a small child all I see is trouble from that pretty thing! I think a similar form, contracted for code, could make a really striking balustrade as well.
ReplyDeleteAnn, definitely could still be used for inspiration (which is why I took the photo!). I love how the tail of the railing on the right elegantly finishes off the flourishes of the pickets - like calligraphy!
ReplyDeleteJust stunning!
