Hidden from view

I came across this identical row of townhouses on a side street in Georgetown recently which I had never noticed before. They're fairly nondescript row-houses of the type to be found all over the city but it's interesting to see how they have changed in the past century. All have been painted and one in particular has a sort of 'Grey Gardens' vibe to it. While I think this is rather wonderful in its way I'm sure the neighbors don't think so! While I work on lengthier posts while life continually gets in the way, what do you think of this type of 'garden' or lack of gardening?

  1. That house needs a haircut. I wonder what it looks like inside.

  2. They are each so different. I would love the lack of major yard care! Cheers, MDC

  4. It looks to me like the inattention of a hoarder. I wonder what's out back.

  6. Either the inside is a time capsule from the 1950s is my guess or a hoarder!! Maybe this forgotten facade is just a ploy to hide some fantastically designed house with a beautiful rear garden? one can dream...

  7. Kind of dark inside I guess but I live in the land of overgrown and leggy foundation planting. Folks just hate the idea of pruning. Anyway this breaks up the view and brings the mystery.

  8. Oh, this is an interesting question! I'm not in the hoarder camp because after all, there is a garbage recepticle by the front door. I think a more likely explanation for this obvious neglect is that the owner suffers from agorophobia. I have such a neighbor, and her curtains are drawn shut 24/7. Fortunately, the neighborhood occasionally steps up to the task of maintaining the outside of her house.

  9. I love to see ivy trailing up a brick exterior; however not this massive growth!

  10. I think this one has gone a little wild, a little trimming will make it look better, glad I am not their neighbor :)
