I've always loved secret gardens. You know the type: surrounded by high walls allowing only glimpses of whats inside by a stray vine over the top, neatly clipped hedges peeping over or stately trees rising above.
Even in winter they keep you guessing as to what's inside their private oasis. File this one under dream house features -those beautiful urns don't hurt this wall in Kalorama either.
Oh, yes. And I want to know about that house....
ReplyDeleteS,
ReplyDeletei have always felt the same way.
i don't know what it is.....
the walls,
the doors,
the fantasy we conjure up ...
or what.
remember the secret garden in CAMELOT
where Guinevere & Lancelot
met?

Good fences and great walls make good neighbors. I love how in Europe the hedges or walls make things much more intimate and private.
ReplyDeleteI could paint right there. Just stunning.

It is always so intriguing! I feel I must know what is behind those walls!

I echo the comment from Stephilius; there must be a story with that great house.
ReplyDeletemmmm so nice, i wish we were already in springtime :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree - nothing beats a secret garden. Although not a city of old walls, Toronto had some lovely small city gardens. When I lived there I would walk through the nice neighborhoods and admire the tiny charming gardens in the back of narrow character houses. A garden does not have to be large to be exquisite - there is something about the cosy or contained garden that is utterly charming!!
