Or rather 2 doorways. Everyone has seen myriad photos of painted Parisian doorways but these 2 caught my eye. The relatively simple one above, squeezed behind the Opera comique, caught my eye. I love the older painted transom while the new door has been left natural; mostly though I was drawn to the oval window above the door.
This is an arrangement to be seen all over the city, notice the beautiful storefront above showing a similar gently arched doorway with oval window above. Baroque architecture lives on even in small things.

I would love to have met the craftsmen who created these. I often wonder about the lives of the people who meticulously carved and painted these beautiful artifacts. What were they thinking about? Their families? Lovers? Nonetheless, their souls are evident in their work...very much unlike the entry in my home *sigh*.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments regarding the dollhouse. Can you imagine the thrill of paying so little for an $8,000. piece? The furnishings have to be as stunning as the house, so it is slow going, as each piece is earned by my daughter!
