You may remember I broke my old camera a few months ago and was on the search for a replacement. My replacement is a Canon Powershot SD1200 is and I can't say enough good things about it. I think the photographs have been excellent at 10 MP (judge for yourself though, the last 2 months worth of posts have used this camera); it's tiny and fits into my pocket and is super easy to use. My previous camera was also a canon powershot from 2002 but the difference is really amazing; Technology has come so far!
Recently at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, I got a chance to see just how far camera technology has advanced. Above you see a number of cameras from the last century in all shapes and sizes.
This Ansco Cadet has the most enormous flash but is basically the 1960s version of my canon amateur powershot. You need luggage to tote this thing around though, definitely NOT pocket size!
This Thorton-Pickard Mark III Aerial gun from 1915 was used during WWI to spy on the enemy. I wouldn't advise this for everyday use unless you want an adventure in prison!
This little promotional velveeta camera was probably my favorite; so cute! I don't know if you had to save up UPC points from boxes or not to earn this, but it was definitely worth it!Sidenote: this is not a paid advertisement of the Canon! Actually, the camera did have a fault in that it did not include a memory card and so was not 'ready to use' ! This is a very annoying thing to find out after you get it home and can't even try it out till you find an SD card!!! Canon - include basic memory cards with your cameras, please!

ReplyDeleteLike a Luddite, I too put off getting a new camera until last June. My old one was from the 90s! A real dinosaur. I love my new Canon and am still amazed at all the features.

I have a Powershot too and I love it. When I bought it I thought the 10 megapixels might be overkill, but after our vacation pics came out so well I'm nothing but glad.

ReplyDeletePhotographer -the special features are all hidden behind complicated menus -i gave up on trying to figure out how to use them! If you figure it out - please let me know!!!

ReplyDeleteYes, Marija -cherry pictures and all of the previous posts too -including this one. I love this camera! It was hard to get a good pictures of the camera collection in the dim lighting though so they're a bit fuzzy.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from another happy Canon PowerShot shooter. Mine is the SD750 ... it's old as dirt ... and I love it enough to have hunted down a replacement LCD to repair it when I had it in my back pocket and sat on a rock. Congrats on your new camera!

ReplyDeleteI bought a 10 pixel Sony several years ago when I entered the New Age (can you believe I was not on the internet for over 10 years—kept buying limestone for the garden instead of new computer. Bought new camera and ipod, too. Still a bit a a newby on both. In fact, tecnology changed so much in last two years almost dinosaurs at birth. I keep telling mself I must force myself into this, but so far it's a bit of a pile. Glad, however, you have power in your hands. Looking forward to see more, more, more please.

ReplyDeleteI've bought SD cards on ebay for under $10 and there's always lots of them so I recommend people going there for them, but agreed they should at least include a low capacity "starter" one with the camera.
Question: there is an SD1400, did you look at that one?
