Weekend treats

This weekend I've treated myself to a cake from my favorite DC bakery, Furins.
Chocolate cake with kahlua butter cream frosting and raspberrys -yum!!
Of course 1/2 of the taste is in the presentation! So my favorite wedgwood cuckoo pattern was used along with a royal doulton cake platter, wedgwood cobalt jasperware cream & sugar and limoge underplates.

  1. Two teacups! So, I'm glad to see you were sharing the cake - a proper cake, not one of the supermarket travesties. Our fave with tea is fruitcake, home-made - Dundee cake to be precise - and fed with brandy a while before cutting. Here I am at five thirty in the morning wanting cake!

  3. Blue -that sounds delicious! I'm a cook but not a baker -so I tend to buy my desserts. Admittedly, I'm a salty snacker and not a sweet one, so desserts don't happen too often other than ice cream. Once in awhile though I crave a really GOOD cake -i don't waste time on cardboard cakes from the supermarket.
    always 2 cups, desserts taste best shared!

  8. P.S. its traditional where I'm from, Lancashire, to eat fruitcake with the local cheese which briefly was available at Wholefoods a couple of years back. I'm a salty snacker too, but that combo of real fruit cake and maybe a blue cheese is totally, mouthwateringly, tasty.

  9. Oh gosh, that looks exquisite. You've really pulled together a pretty collection. You're right, it is so much about presentation (but I bet the cake is delicious too!). Wish I lived closer haha and you'd be having a weekend guest for cake more often!

  15. I knew you had splendid taste: chocolate and raspberries! I believe it was really the source of seduction in the garden of eden. I wouldn't leave paradise for an apple, but that cake...!   20. 10 years in DC and I have never heard of Furins. And I have a sweet tooth the size of Rhode Island. I am going to have to check this out.
