Since today is Bastille Day (or Fete Nationale as it's known as in France), Heather from Habitually Chic and I thought it was the perfect time to announce our trip to Paris in early September!
We had talked for months about wanting to go visit Versailles and you can't do that without visiting Paris! We plan on staying in the city with at least a day devoted to exploring Verailles. Another must of course are the fleamarkets! I can't wait :-)
Of course, I'm most excited though about visiting the Petit Trianon which i've blogged about several times in the past. I hope that by the time i'm in my dotage I'll be an expert on the small chateau and this is just the start :-)

ReplyDeleteYou all will have a ball! I used to go over every couple of weeks for a project I was working on when I was in Wales. It was a 2 hour flight, so pretty simple.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I always looked out for were signs advertising 'brocante' which were sort of like tag sales.
You should get in touch with Vicki Archer at French Essence and ask her advice.

What a great trip! We're hoping to go back this coming spring, we were just talking about it yesterday.
ReplyDeleteIf you're wanting a flea market, I loved the market at Porte de Vanves. It's on weekends and starts early. We got there just after 7am and most everyone was already set up.
If you've not been to the Musee d'Orsay, go, it's wonderful.
Also, if you need a restaurant recommendation, mine is Le Petit Prince de Paris, near the Pantheon.
How utterly fabulous. You know how I thought of you when I went there last summer. I shall make a list for you of things to see. Do you have your hotel?

Versailles is just wonderful, I visited over 20 years ago and then had the opprtunity to visit again 2 years ago. As luck would have it the Petit Trianon was closed both times! So could only walk around the outside. If you have a chance visit the Rodin Museum, it is brilliant

ReplyDeleteIf you're not already a member... you can register to La société des amis de Versailles... and you can have free priority access to the chateau, Trianons, etc. and some apartments. All for 60 Euros. Its worth it...

I think you are being inundated with suggestions of great places to go! I'd say select some of the historic house museums: Nissim Camondo, Jacquemart André, Cognacq-Jay, Vie Romantique dependant on where you are in Paris. The flea market at Vanves will provide the most transportable finds. Don't miss antiques in Versailles(http://www.antiques-versailles.com/en/presentation.htm) and if you'd like a nice little restau there try au Carré.
ReplyDeleteDavid, I first went to La Petit Prince over 25 years ago, and went back for the first time in 2007. I was surprised it was still there, and just as good!

ReplyDeleteYou really MUST visit the contemporary art gallery at the Pompidou Centre. They have an amazing zen garden with a truly awe inspiring view of Paris. I believe it is on the fifth floor.
