ArchitectDesign in Elle Decor!

Many thanks to those of you who have emailed me about my quote in the Jan./Feb. 2009 issue of Elle Decor magazine and to Elle Decor for asking for my humble opinion :-) I'm especially honored to be included in the list with some of my FAVORITE bloggers! The paraphrased quote regarding my opinion on the most over-rated trend is:

Architectdesign's Stefan Hurray takes aim at taxidermy. "Not only does this glorify the killing of animals, it frightens children!" he insists. "And anyway, who wants something dead in the house?".

I'm sure there are many of you who disagree with me, but thats what makes design so much fun: different points of view! Thanks again, Elle Decor!!

PS. isn't that fox SO cute!

  5. One time I was in a baby store and they had this cute little kitten curled up on a bed and I went to pet it and freaked out, it was a dead stuffed cat. YUCK! Who would want a dead animal in the house? I guess to each his own but to look at a deer head and think I am so proud I killed that thing I'm gonna cut off it's head and hang it on my wall. WTF, go buy a poster.

  9. Stefan - that IS major. Congrats! And thanks for speaking out against taxidermy. It frightens me too, and makes me feel sad.

  12. WOW! Congratulations!! I love Elle Decor. It's one of the few magazines I HAVE to subscribe to. Is this is the December issue?

Uh-oh. I do have a taxidermy rooster. Oh, and a pheasant. And a squirrel and a fish. Other than that, the Manor is animal free.

  13. Willow, Like I said, it's the differences in people's tastes and opinions are what makes it interesting! I'm sure your little friends are fabulous :-) It's in the January / February issue.
    Thanks EVERYONE!!!

  14. Congratulations on the mention! I must agree..dead, stuffed and then displayed animals remind me of the fox stole my Grandmother wore around her shoulders. That little beady eyed fox face was very frightening!

  23. Where have I been? I just discovered you after reading your fabulously spot on quote in this month's Elle Decor. So, of course, I had to look you up. You now have a new fan in me. This blog is one I can't wait to follow. Congrats on your expert opinion in the press!

  24. Finally someone has said it! Thank you for that! So many times, an interesting and attractive room is absolutely ruined with a dead animal in it. I don't even like antler racks because they conjure up images of the beautiful buck that they belonged to that is now dead!

  25. Oh congratulations!! I've been thinking about you, hoping you are well. And I'm so glad you've been visiting my blog even though I've been a very bad blogger. But for the record, I don't mind a little taxidermy. :)

  26. I'm a latecomer to your wonderful blog. I completely agree with your Elle comments, I'm a Realtor and cringe when we walk into a home with taxidermy on the mantle and an oh-so popular zebra skin on the floor. People have been very offended and turn to leave, because they can't bear the sight.
