Vacations

So this week has me thinking -where is your ideal vacation spot? A quiet beach, an exotic location, a safaria or a fast-paced city perhaps? Personally, I like 2 smaller vacations a year; one week to the beach (seafood and nice weather, Cape Cod anyone?) and a week in a European city. Do any of these look appealing to you? Is there a place you return to year after year?

  1. After our trip to Europe, we came home feeling the need for a week at a "beach" so your post is perfect.
I like the idea of 2 different vacation spots.
We love the energy of visiting cities but we also love how nature provides a calming yet invigorating energy.
I love the New England beaches, the waves are powerful and I love the country, anywhere.

  2. Hmmm...ideal vacation spot? I'd have to say that as of late I've been very much wanting to go to the beach. I'm not a beach bum by any means (this fair-skinned girl has to be slathered in SPF 4906 at all times), but the thought of being in the warm air, the smell of salt around me, feeling the sand in between my toes...bliss.

If I had money, though, I'd hop on over to Europe and live it up. I used to live in London, and have done some traveling to Brussels (yum!) and wouldn't mind going back.

    Enjoy your week, dear!

  3. I totally get why you like a week of each. I LOVE to travel, and new cities are fascinating, but it's not very restful for me when I go to one, because I'm out and about all day every day exploring, and I pass out exhausted when I get back to the hotel. But the beach, or the mountains--it's not as stimulating, but therefore much more relaxing. Yes please, I will take one of each!

  5. I'm glad you agree, nerdy (may I call you that?). I had a very restful week (although a sunburn REALLY wears you out) but at times I was a bit bored. I do better with the fun location vacations but find I need a restful weekend to recover!!

  6. I know the feeling, PVE! I really miss cape cod now, of course i've only been back a few hours. I feel as if I could be happy retiring there - perfect beaches, perfect weather (perhaps not in winter!)

  7. Anywhere there's water and sand keeps me coming back year after year...Hawaii, Boracay Island, Austrailia. BTW, "Be the change you want in the world" is so right on!

  8. I just found you! and so far, I love your blog.

I live in Europe, London, so hoping on a plane for the weekend was something that was done regularly. Prague, Helsinki, Vienna, etc. Now, we have a 5 month old girl so travelling without organising it way ahead is not possible.

We're lucky to have a bolthole in the 7th, in Paris and we visit at least once a month for a long weekend. If we need to bring back wine, cheese or some piece of antique, we drive there otherwise we fly.
I'm also bless to with homes in Northern Greece (Chalkidiki) and Milan (I'm Italian-Greek) so a couple of weeks under the Greek sun and a few days of shopping are compulsory.
Above all, we're lucky in Europe to have 25 days of paid holidays, so we have more time to dedicate to travelling and holidaying.
Favourite holiday destination for beach holiday is the Reethi Rah in the Maldives. I make sure I visit different island there every few years. They are disappearing under water so I want to see them before they're gone.

P.S. I see you you love Versailles and Chatsworth House!

  9. Thanks, Angel! Sounds like you have a great set up, I'm jealous!
Michael, I've yet to be to Hawaii, I guess it's easier to get to from the west coast! I hear Australia is lovely too!
