Clever Idea

I found these images on apartment therapy a few years ago and always thought they were so clever. Everyone has had one of those rentals with a god-awful gold-colored colonial-esque chandelier in the dining room. This person's solution was to wrap the entire thing with christmas lights! Sure it's a little hokey, but what a great idea and look how fantastic the results are! If you are really smart you get a screw in plug so you can plug the lights into one of the sockets. This is the poor man's version of turning lemons into lemonade!

  2. wow. that's wonderful innovation! oh yes... how I recall those fixtures. I was that dreaded tenant that would swap them out with ones I liked until I moved... and then back went the uglies! LOL!

Honestly, I wish I had thought of this solution It would have saved me a few trips up the ladder ;)

  3. yes, franki -for a poor college student or a temporary fix I think it's brilliant! I didn't have the money in college to switch out the lights, but I could have strung christmas lights! This is a case of 'why didn't I think of that?'

  4. having just used one of those god-awful gold colonial fixtures *completely on purpose* in a recent project, i'm here to tell you they're back!- you know yeterday's really ugly is tomorrow's treasure...

but that aside, this is a *truly* great idea- i'm picturing several outside, hanging from trees!

  5. They're not all awful, maison21!! But the ones that are used in many rentals are usually the same cheap, rusty, no style one! I'm sure you've picked out fixtures much more stylish :-)
I like your idea of hanging similar type things outside!
