I was hanging out with a new friend yesterday and she mentioned that she had never been to the Library of Congress but had always wanted to go. I know I wrote about it earlier this year but figured I'd give her some inspiration to head over there! Late last year I made it over to the Library of Congress finally to see one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. No exaggeration -it's the cover of the book of the same title! It's a wonderful book that I've really enjoyed -i've attached a link to amazon to buy it on my sidebar -check it out!
How incredibly beautiful! I have yet to visit the LOC, but now I'm more anxious than ever!
ReplyDeletePOC, it's a very beautiful and colorful building -it's also open to the public and you can get your own Library of Congress library card! Most materials must be read in the actual building though and not checked out.
ReplyDeleteNever been there (blush).
ReplyDeleteThis is the United States???!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize we had such beautiful public spaces, God.
I never had either, PD! it's never too late! check it out!!
ReplyDeleteWashington is full of such spaces, CdT!! It just takes some snooping around to find them!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! And now your blog has traffic from Zambia! :)
ReplyDeleteConsider me inspired! And thanks. I had so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you dear architect, for another delicious tour!
ReplyDeleteThe Library of Congress~such a dry name for such a sumptuous place. Who knew??
Thanks, Toby! It is a rather dry name -but anyone can go to study the materials there -it's an amazing place!
ReplyDeleteAlex, I had a great day as well! Hope you get to see the library soon!
These pictures are amazing. Thanks so much for sharing them. My 14 year old son is going to Washington with a youth church group in December. I know he'll be pretty booked but I really hope he gets to take in some of the wonderful Architecture. I'm going to share your blog with him.
ReplyDeleteHe's just starting to think about college and careers but I'm so happy to say that Architecture is high on his list.
Kwana, thats wonderful! If he thinks he wants to study architecture, make sure he goes to a school that has an accredited architecture program, many schools are not - just another thing to add to finding out about a potential school! Luckily, DC is full of wonderful architecture so he'll be able to take it in despite his busy schedule!
ReplyDeleteOk, that's been moved way up on my "to-see" list. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos. Great post - thank you
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. Very beautiful place.
ReplyDeletewow !
ReplyDeleteI love doing research there...though generally I end up in the Madison Building :( But, the reading room at the Jefferson is so fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been inside the madison but it's not nearly as beautiful of course, very few places are! LOL
ReplyDeleteOn a related note, while at the Renwick gallery this weekend, I realized one of the 'art' pieces of furniture (a secretary) on the 2nd floor featured a model of that reading room in the upper portion of the cabinet! Have you seen it, Janet?
Sorry I missed seeing this on my trip. Just one more reason to come back ...
