But the building is quite large and complex, and would have needed cooking, cleaning and security staff in its own right.Helshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02849907428208235392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28651976363618994.post-85781409149254532442014-09-20T13:05:57.797-04:002014-09-20T13:05:57.797-04:00A charming design! I suppose textile patterns had to be repeating because they would also have been used on a smaller scale, for seat covers and clothes etc. Even so, I wonder whether the silks and the wallpapers were nevertheless decorated by the same people, or the same workshops...? I clearly need to book some time travel back to 1770s Guangzhou :)Emile de Bruijnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04040735807801997971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28651976363618994.post-78580727509756172062014-09-17T22:42:45.397-04:002014-09-17T22:42:45.397-04:00Stefan, your European posts are killing me--provok...Stefan, your European posts are killing me--provoking envy and lust!

This particular building was something quite new, and it bowled me over. The twined snakes at the edge of the bath are rather "interesting".

I wonder, are the vases - actual - Wedgwood? Certainly the style was so popular; might there have been German porcelain makers who copied it?Stephiliushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08562830870365561419noreply@blogger.com
