And fascinating how this proves that that Chinese wallpapers were still considered smart and exclusive in the 1830s.Emile de Bruijnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04040735807801997971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28651976363618994.post-37655844210794587512015-06-13T13:04:17.274-04:002015-06-13T13:04:17.274-04:00Great tour - thank you and your penpal for sharing...Great tour - thank you and your penpal for sharing! I visited Chatsworth about 10 years ago, and will never forget that experience. The extensive collections - art, furniture, silver, pottery, textiles - utterly sumptuous. The highlight for me was the sculpture gallery!!Woodside Parkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13981644571968878448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28651976363618994.post-75134080432416678462015-06-12T16:44:19.941-04:002015-06-12T16:44:19.941-04:00Stefan, I am so in awe of Chatsworth and the artfu...Stefan, I am so in awe of Chatsworth and the artful additions over the decades. The art corridor leading to the chapel, the sculpture gallery, the print contemporary pieces mixed in, as the Freud portraits are with Ancestral. Stunning hand painted Chinoiserie.....I guess I could go on and on!

xoxo
Karena
The Arts by KarenaKarenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05206642885608991170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28651976363618994.post-60374033913956301292015-06-11T17:35:49.752-04:002015-06-11T17:35:49.752-04:00Once again, you have graced us with a beautiful hi...Once again, you have graced us with a beautiful historical post of these great estates. The British do not sell their forefather's belongings in estate sales like we do, accumulation of all the art and furniture etc through generations add such rich layers in the interiors. Though England is not on my list of travels but I would love too see some of these houses (or palaces) some day. I see a few areas, like the dining room's ceiling, that suggest that William Kent contributed to the interiors.Mark D. Not always as interesting to share though ( or easy to photograph!).
I always wonder why we don't see more green in interiors. I have to say with a lot of the Great Houses of England, I often enjoy the smaller rooms most; with some of them, mostly built in the brief English Baroque style - like Blenheim, Castle Howard - I find the huge public spaces awkwardly proportioned and decorated. But, like here, I find the bedrooms, especially, delicious. And, luckily, I DO like that green! : )Stephiliushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08562830870365561419noreply@blogger.com
