Doorways of Georgetown

The other day while walking through Georgetown I noticed this beautiful door and transom. Notice how the glass door inside the vestibule has the same transom as the solid entry doors - I love this look for letting light into the stairhall.  Now this is just one example of the many beautiful doorways of Georgetown.

Hi, Stefan - That is a great touch! I could see you doing a calendar or poster of Georgetown doors — I'm sure there's a colorful variety. Incidentally, did you know that it was Eleanor Roosevelt who was largely responsible for the restoration of Georgetown?

That is such a rich scene, so much packed in a small space, wonderful passage from public to private, a seductive tease in this picture.

Gorgeous. I love how you framed the photo with the branches hanging down in the foreground. Wonderful!

New Dealers and artists associated with Eleanor Roosevelt surely were among those who sought to buy and renovate houses in Georgetown, but I never thought of her as being largely responsible for the restoration. That essay would make an excellent blog post.

What a gem of a find. I love the glass, you have such a good eye. I always want to snap shots of other people's houses and buildings but I think, "okay what if they catch me snooping!" :)

A beautiful detail, repeated. I love it. I took so many photos of doors in Georgetown and Alexandria, you have no idea. There is something about the entryways to these gorgeous townhouses - the historical detail, the wonderful colours and pots out front, the transoms, the railings, so much beauty in a small vignette.

Lovely! Terri xo
