Masquerade

The bright young thing mentality: the penchant for fantasy and masquerade had become an expression of the disregard they felt for the immediate past or the immediate future. They lived -or tried to live - outside their time. Philip Hoare, Serious Pleasures, the life of stephen tennant
New Years Eve is the perfect time for fantasy. What do you want your life to be this coming year? Or fantasy could be as simple as dressing up in costume for the evening: full of high hopes for the future and escaping the past year.

Fantasy is not dead, it survives.

Whatever form your fantasies take or whatever you may wear, I hope you have great New Years celebrations!

Wow, the dresses are so pretty!! My favorite is the first one and the one below "fantasy is not dead, it survives!" I really like what you wrote too... it's exactly how I have been feeling. I can't wait for this year to be O V E R and plan on doing everything possible to make next year absolutely fabulous! I hope you have a wonderful New Year celebration to go to and that all your New Year wishes come true too!

Great images Stefan! Happy New Years!! I say break out of the box and go a bit to the wild side (See Simply Seleta!) be yourself and develop a look you like. I have always been classic, however with the new scarves and accessories ...voila....are a whole new look.

Again smashingly beautiful images which I am reading while still in my PJs. So underdressed to read AD!

As others have expressed so glad to end this year and how wonderful we can add the exclamation, and "Take that entire decade with you!" All the best to you.

Love, love, love this post, and all the fantasies. How clever of you to assemble them

The Garbo photo was used by my late partner many years ago as the cover of his book, Grand Illusions---as I write this, I'm looking at a framed copy...

Oooo, Rene Gruau wins hands down for me.
What that man could do with just a few lines of his pen or brush!
A very under rated artist for his work was mainly commercial but... what a talent!!!!
Many trrrry to copy but... they do not have his eye or wit!

I send my best wishes for 2010.

These are some beautiful images.I especially love the one of Dita von Teese (that is Dita, right?) wearing the luscious peachy chiffon dress with black detail. It reminds me of a cream-sicle! Lauren
