TV & Bed

I came across this picture and thought it was odd. It's a cute bedroom: it seems to have a queen sized bed but the tv is at the one side of the bed and not at the foot. That seems unfair if there are 2 occupants -right? So where do you keep your tv in your bedroom? Do you even have one at all? Inquiring minds want to know!
Here you can see the tv where I think it belongs -at the foot of the bed.

For quite a while - we did not have one, and then suddenly it appeared. It is at the foot of our bed and we only watch when we have time for it - which is;
a. hardly ever
b. and when we do, we are instantly put to sleep.
Funny- my OB gyn says NO TV in the bedroom.
TMI - I know, sorry, you asked...

I don't keep a t.v. in my bedroom, but sometimes I bring my computer in to watch dvds. When I do this, I always put it next to my bed, as opposed to the foot of the bed. It's easier for me to watch it this way.

post script: I love the bedroom in the second picture!

Our T.V. in the bedroom is in a cubby high up in the wall... the previous owners had this niche built in and their bed was on the opposite wall between two windows..welll...our bed was too wide to fit between the windows..so we have it on the same wall as the T.V...we have to lay with our heads at the foot of the bed to watch our eve. shows before bed... at least when we wake up..we have a beautiful view of the wooded back yard from the head of the bed!!! Needless to say..I have been on the hunt for a new bed..gathering so much info from all the wonderful design blogs such as yours!! :)

Mine is at the foot of the bed off to the right because of a window right at the foot of the bed. Perhaps there is a big window in the top pic making it impossible to put a tv in that spot.

Ditto what Pamela said.

Hey there...was doing a random google search and got directed to your site and realized it was you my friend! Thanks for all your wonderful comments! As far as where I keep my TV...I don't have one in the bedroom-because I fear I might not ever get out of bed! Makes it a lot easier! Stay in touch!

that's so funny - you said "unfair!" ha! really - how do those people watch tv? it may pull out from the shelf and turn towwards the bed, but still, how awkward.

I'm surprised so many people are so smart! I think all dr's say having a tv in the bedroom is a bad idea (not just obgyn, pve!). I just think there is nothing better than a movie in bed on a saturday night snuggled up, or better than watching tv in the morning with a pot of tea. I never thought of having a window at the foot at the bed -that sure would be a problem that would create a need for a different tv location! I love hearing how people 'operate' -thanks for the insight, everyone!

That first room with the television tucked into the bookcase was so attractive and appealing...
If the occupant must view the screen at an oblique angle, it would seem a minor compromise.
Would you happen to know the designer of that "odd" room?

I'm afraid not, Toby. I got the image a long time ago before I started to keep track of what images are. I saved it from somewhere in blogland about a year ago!

I know people frown on having a TV in the bedroom, but I couldn't live without mine. No way, no how. I love my TV! It makes my bedroom into a little retreat, and there's nothing better than watching movies in bed. Ours is on the wall facing the bed. I couldn't look over my shoulder all the time (or over my husband's shoulder) like the one in the first picture--but the room is lovely.

Are you joining the Hooked on House Tours blog party Friday? You always give good tours, so I hope you'll link up with us! :-)

FYI, the first room was designed by New Zealand born, London based Vere Grenney. It's actually his bedroom and is featured in the recent Australian Vogue Living, if you're interested.
